This (Saturday) morning a hydrogen-filled balloon – one of 10 registered in Switzerland crashed near the German border at Fisisbach. (DRS)
The balloon took off at 5 o'clock in the morning, ascended to about 2'000 meters, and then suddenly fell after the pilot reported problems. One of the two passengers died, while the other and the pilot got seriously injured.
The reason for the crash is not clear, it seems to be a technical defect, as apparently the gas escaped suddenly. The hydrogen played no role in this second fatal LTA-accident in Europe within a month.
